January 30, 2020 at 11:28 AM搞 means "to do" in Chinese. For example, 你在搞什么 "What are you doing?" 基 sounds like the word "gay" in Cantonese. So 搞基 means "two people of the same gender being in love". And mostly, it's used to describe two males. For example, 他们在搞基 "These two males are in love". But, to me, it is a negative word since 搞 is always used in a bad situation.
