Hello Douglas, Zhi is a measure word, and there are a couple more that were in that video. And you are definitely right we have to have the number 2 in the vocabulary!! Hello Shweta, Zhi is a measure word. So when you are counting.. or 'measuring' something in Chinese you need to add a measure word after the number. Have you heard of the phrase 'pieces of paper'? In English we don't say I need 5 paper, we say, I need 5 pieces of paper. So it's kind of the same thing. In Chinese ANY time you are enumerating something and giving a number to how many items you have you have to put a measure in there. Measure words change for the item you are referring to. You'll notice that in this video there are different measure words for some of the different animals. We are coming out with a follow up video to explain measure words. Stay tuned!
