@Wenjong

You can say,

头盔 (tou2 kui1)

for a bike or motorcycle helmet.

Actually, 安全帽 specifically refers to a 'safety hat', kind of a like a hardhat. Thing is, many people wear these while riding motorcycles here! These of course, aren't sufficiently safe, but they satisfy the legal requirement. I remember sitting behind a motorcab driver and noticing 'not for vehicle use' printed on the back of his 安全帽 alongside a picture of a motorcycle with an 'x' through it. Ha!

As for bikes, you rarely see people wearing any sort of safety gear at all. (unless they're the sporty type of course...)

@joeborn

Yeah, you're right, that's a mix up. And nope, you can't you can't actually use this 浅 to describe flavor. To do that, you'd use:

淡 (dan4): light or thin

and

浓 (nong2): thick, dense or concentrated

@orangina

好你个头 is like saying "Good? Yeah right!"

In American English there were a few similar expressions back when I was growing up in the '80s. "Cool my foot!"(The meaning being 'totally uncool')

We also said, "Good my butt!" Which you can do in Chinese as well.

好你个屁! Which is maybe a bit stronger than 个头

@roderick1234

Ah, that's right! I didn't think of that. Strangely enough, I remember actually saying 'he had the gall to...' only a few days ago myself.

A few after thoughts:

This is the same character is in the word for brave, or bravery:

勇敢

Also, the word for coward or 'chicken' is

胆小鬼

This 胆 is gall bladder! I guess courage comes from the gall bladder. Who would have thought!

Finally, you can cut out the 体 and 游 and simply say

裸泳

for skinny-dipping if you want to shorten it a bit.

爽!

我还记得上海的襄阳市场。那边真是个山寨天堂。(不过去买东西的话就像地狱样!)

Good stuff!

Although, I have a question about 包厢. I've only ever heard 包间 bao1jian1 for a private room. The only definition I can find for 包厢 is 'box seats', like for a theatre or sporting event.

Are they interchangable?

Also, there's the issue of a cab driver purposely going the long way to increase the fare. In SH, if you think this has happened to you, you can call the number (on the reciept?) and if the pick-up location and drop-off destination don't match up to an appropriate cost, the company will come to you and reimburse you the difference. Now that's service. (Just remember to get the 发票)
