I enjoyed listening to this. I think it is interesting to read about these so called “ first visitors” but I have been equally fascinated by accounts where we have even more details .So in 1774 a Scotsman George Bogle was the first British envoy to go to Tibet and he met the Panchen Lama.( Book “The High Road to Tibet”) .In  January of 1896 a women called Isabella Bird , 64 years of age at the time, travelled to China alone by river boat up the Yangtze almost to the Tibetan boarder.  Even more remarkable she taught herself photography before she went  and took some of the earliest photographs of China , which are still preserved in London. ( The Yangtze Valley and Beyond by Isabella Bird).  And finally Reginald Fleming Johnston and his account of life in China including his being tutor to the last Emperor.( Twilight in the Forbidden City).

I have heard that some of the earliest Jesuit missionaries to China were responsible for writing important books about the Chinese Language and writing . Does anybody know if there is anything published about their thinking about how to learn Chinese?

In the sentence “ What do you think we should do?”  could you say 你觉得怎么办。 Ni juede zenmeban     Or 你认为怎么办  ni renwei zenme ban . And if you can use these constructions would there be a difference in meaning ?
