No. 不喜歡 means to not like something. It's a typo either in the translation or the dialogue itself, as far as I can tell.

Sorry for the confusion. I was just making the point that the same character can have different pronunciations and still be considered the standard. 

I just asked my friend who is from Taiwan ( but she's not a linguist either ) and she said that they usually pronounce 血 as ㄒㄧㄝˇ although some people use ㄒㄩㄝˇ.

So I guess what the original poster heard may be true.

At the end of the day, I never really even think of these things when studying, my only concern is understanding and being understood. Personally, I don't think my pronunciation is that great either but from speaking with random Chinese people almost on a daily basis for the last year and a half or so ( I meet a lot of mandarin speakers at my job ), it really doesn't seem to effect communication. It's always just a matter of do you know the words or not, never a "that's how they say it over there" thing.

So are you saying because the character has 2 readings, one has to be standard and the other not? 

So when you say 已經 then say 自己  , which pronunciation of 已 is the standard?  How about 通行 and 銀行 ？Because what I'm deciphering from your point is there can only be one standard way to pronounce the character. I'm pretty sure both are standards in all the above words.

I could be wrong though. I never knew pinyin accommodated regional changes in pronunciation. I always thought since they developed it in China as a standard, then that's how it's used, as a guide to the  standard pronunciation of characters.

The joke is, xie3 and xue4 are both 漢語拼音 which was created and standardized in the mainland China. Therefore when you type xie into the pinyin output and you get 血 it's safe to assume that's how it's pronounced in the 標準 form. In Taiwan they would input ㄒㄧㄝˇ . Neither xie or xue.

When I was in Taipei last year, I was leaving the building I was staying in and noticed a big 蟑螂 crawling in through the bottom of the front door. I was pretty scared, then as I opened the front door, there were literally hundreds of 蟑螂 coming out of the storm drain. I was scared to death. Luckily there was a old lady with yellow rain boots stomping on them while laughing. She was pretty amused by how scared I was. Later on I asked my friend if that was normal in Taiwan, since that was my 2nd or 3rd day there. They told me that there was some deng fever outbreak in the south and they were pouring chemicals in the drains for some reason, and all the 蟑螂 were coming out. I still have the video, it was pretty crazy.
