October 18, 2010 at 1:51 AMI cannot resist recalling how, strolling in Regents Park (in London) one day, I was accosted by a 小伙子 with the words: "Oi, are you looking at my bird?"

October 16, 2010 at 6:37 AMWhen teaching my Chinese students English pronunciation, I often use the sentence:- "Harry had a habit of helping hitchhikers". I'm thinking of dropping it though, because I often seem to end up spending an inordinate amount of time explaining what hitchhiking is, and why the jolly looking man in the picture I use with the sentence is 'thumbing' at passing cars. I certainly gave up mentioning that I used to hitchhike myself in England when I was a teenager after one girl said how surprised she was that I could "ever have been a beggar".

Okiedoke, it's on my list jen. Perhaps this weekend is not the best one for 'extreme cheese', but it's certainly on my list! And thank you, I do enjoy your contribution to QW, (not that Liliana isn't great too of course!)

October 16, 2010 at 3:16 AMThe Princess Bride? Never seen it. Now I guess I have to... or do I? Well it did recently make it onto a Guardian list of classic children's films . So great... thanks CPod, there goes another 2 hours of my (future) life.
Cute lesson btw... I concur with bodawei on this one, (although I did enjoy the recommended uses for 入乡随俗!)

October 11, 2010 at 7:33 AMI'm right? Err... what about? What a splendid list, can all those enchanting things really be found in Australia? Looks like we 老外 pretenders picked the wrong country mate! Yet I feel you choose not to answer my question, unless you are telling me that you have no Chinese friends! ;)

October 11, 2010 at 3:01 AMbodawei, for a while now I can't help noticing the self-inclusive way you speak of China, and I can't help wondering if you refer to 《我们中国》when you're chatting with your Chinese friends.

October 11, 2010 at 2:56 AMA delightful lesson, and baba, you've really done us proud with the pics! But I agree with John, I think even the drummers and the trumpet players should have been 美女!

October 18, 2010 at 5:26 AMCreative maybe, but I reckon you'd need a big head (and strong ears) to pull it off!
