起来 qǐlai is often used after a verb as a complement to express various meanings. Among other meanings, 起来 qǐlai may mean 'begin to...,'

e.g. Wǒmen bù děng bàba le, chī qǐlai ba. (我们不等爸爸了,吃起来吧。) = We're not waiting for Dad, let's start eating.

In this lesson's dialogue I'd say the sense of 吃起来 is that the process of eating begins, continues, and turns out to be 太麻烦了!

Cǎoyuán shàng láile yī qún yáng. Cāi yīzhǒng shuǐguǒ --- cǎoméi!
Cǎoyuán shàng yòu láile yī qún láng. Cāi yīzhǒng shuǐguǒ --- yángméi!

A flock of sheep came to a field. Guess the fruit --- strawberry!
Then a pack of wolves came to the field. Guess the fruit --- red bayberry!
