Hmm... that particular character tends to get transcribed in a number of ways. It's an interjection, and "ng" is an acceptable transcription to express a kind of grunt of agreement.

It's definitely useful and interesting to have this kind of construction explained more clearly. The example sentences given are very helpful.

Onomatopoeia is a word I fondly remember from my high school English class. It refers to a word that imitates or suggests the sound of the thing it represents.

A novice poet may of course begin with the words: 'the cat sat on the mat'. Thus does art make pussy on a mat appear.

I certainly feel Newton didn't come out of that quarrel well, tarnishes his image somewhat, 是不是？

As a Brit of course I'm proud of Newton, but actually I'm much prouder of Darwin, who behaved with much greater dignity and nobility in the (perhaps) similar incident with Alfred Russell Wallace.

December 25th was at one time the feast day of the god Mithras, like Jesus in so many ways it seems. It seems logical to conclude that this day was chosen as Christ's 'birthday' to displace older forms of belief.

Isaac Newton was a great scientist, and certainly had a few good ideas, but he was not a terribly nice person and was unfortunately infected with religious mania. Probably had Asberger's Syndrome.

Not much 火鸡 to enjoy in a 广东圣诞节. I felt sure the swankiest and most 'western' restaurant in town would have some when I went there on Xmas Eve.

Me: 小妹，你们这里有没有火鸡吗？
Waitress：有啊！那当然！

Me: Xiǎomèi, nǐmen zhèlǐ yǒu méiyǒu huǒjī ma?
Waitress: Yǒu a! Nà dāngrán!

And then she brought me a 火机 (huǒjī). A cigarette lighter. No English style Xmas Pud either. *sigh*
