In the lesson, 'Yang Jie's Fury', Jenny indidcated that 干吗 (gan4ma2) is always a little rude. But in this lesson, it sounds like just a normal question. Is it an acceptable thing to say to someone?

I haven't knit in quite a while, but I do like to crochet. It's really easy and it's fun to make something while watching TV. Here's an interesting pattern that I just finished: http://amysbabies.wordpress.com/magnetic-katamari-pattern/ And, for those of you unfamiliar with where this pattern comes from, check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katamari_Damacy Maybe that's what we need, a lesson on video games!

Hey user21377, I have found that the Intermediate lessons are very useful because of the difficulty in understanding Jenny's explanations. The trick is that very often John will repeat in English what Jenny has just said in Chinese. So this actually gives you a couple of learning vectors at the same time: you learn the chunk of lexis (as Ken would say) that they are discussing and you also learn the Chinese way to describe it. For every Intermediate lesson, I always find that there is one or two points that I just don't get, so then I'll check out the PDF to see what I'm missing. Because learning is all about patterns and multi-dimensional exposure and chunks of lexis and so forth. Or so I'm told.

I liked this lesson. Strangely, most of all I liked the intro! Hello, we are... Chinesepod! and we're coming from... Shanghai, China! and we're bringing you lessons in... Spoken Chinese! Honestly, I think that the banter between Ken, John and Jenny really keep me interested and motivated to listen to every lesson. Thanks a lot and please keep it up!

I liked this lesson and the "What's up?" lesson. It is nice to get some more real greetings in lessons, rather than the standard fare. I have to say that both lessons' pictures make me smile, too. The ladies look so happy to see each other, it makes me want to go out and make some new Chinese friends. Although... the lady in this lesson's picture almost seems to be in some kind of kung fu pose. "Smiling Dragon" style, maybe?

Ha ha ha! Knowing what this movie is really makes me laugh when I think about mixing it with Godzilla. Maybe they'll have to bring Godzilla out of retirement to save Japan from a giant tatonka from very slowly consuming all of their grasslands.

I liked this lesson and I was happy to have Ken back. I like John in the intermediate section, but Ken brings a certain je ne sais quoi to the table. He is certainly more verbose about linguistics, but it gives me enthusiasm for learning. And, of course, it makes me want to go to Chinesepod dot com to explore the multifaceted aspects of Chinese, because language is all about patterns, and modular chunks of lexus, and don't get me started on language and culture, and... Dammit. Ok, maybe I've been listening to Ken too much.

I'm just curious about something... Why did you add a ringing bell at the end of the dialogue? When she says xia wu si dian it sounds like a train is going by. Jenny, how much did Ken pay you to drop in his "Learning is about building associations" blurb at the end? And, apparently I'm in the running for the 'most likely to miss the point of the lesson' award as all my questions are fluff.

I'm surprised you haven't been sued by Dell for picking a picture of one of their computers for the 'crashed computer' picture. :^)

This is sweet. I was just about to write a comment on the last beauty pageant lesson to ask for some closure! I knew she was going to get in trouble. Well, at least she'll have plenty to blog about very soon!
