While we are on the subject of "when": How do I use it in the affirmative, f.e.: "When I was a little child I ate four apples". I figured something like: "Wǒ xiǎode háizi shíhou wǒ chī sìge píngguǒ" could be right. I'm sure there are lessons on this, but I couldn't find them using search tags "time" or "when". I'd be happy if someone could indicate them to me.
In my sentence above, may I substitute "chī le" for "chī", or does thet imply I had eaten 4 apples in my entire life till then?
