hi mervyn, 他不在这里。(Tā bù zài zhèlǐ.) When you are talking about a location of the subject, the location comes after the preposition. 这里没有人。(Zhèlǐ méiyǒu rén.) Here the location is the subject of the sentence, so it comes at the beginning.

Hi Bazza, Generally, to say I don't like any alcohol its enough to say: 我不喜欢喝酒。 Wǒ bù xǐhuan hē jiǔ. But if you really want to emphasize it, you would say: 我什么酒都不喜欢。 Wǒ shénme jiǔ dōu bù xǐhuan. :)

tianfeng, Great! All our poddies are so smart I knew someone would be able to help us to get to the bottom of these coy refusals to drink. Now, what I am wondering about is, does anyone have any personal anecdotes they can regale us with about the first time they met their Chinese girlfriend/boyfriends parents, ala JohnB?

Hi Art, Haha, I don't even know what a 'yenta' is in English! I've been in Asia too long... i don't know the hip words of the western world anymore! hi goulnicky, yes! I love that calligraphy with water on the sidewalk art form as well. Great question. I will ask around about that and we can talk more about that for sure. There is something so simple and serene about it. Wow, I'm glad no ones asked me to join in -- i think I would only dare attempt to write '一二三' ...
