June 15, 2007 at 6:12 AMHi TaiPan, Here's the hanzi for your sentence: ...你的手套看起来很美。 (...nǐ de shǒutào kàn qǐlai hěn měi.) Excellent sentence, perfect use of 看起来 (kàn qǐlai) 美 (měi) is a little formal here...maybe more often used for flowers, scenery, paintings, people. Maybe, let's just say, if you're talking about the gloves, we wouldn't go so far as to say 美 (měi). Maybe 漂亮 (piàoliàng) would be complimentary enough. Man2Toe, Good sentence, your powers of observation are acute. Here it is, just a little tweaked: 你的照片看起來像一隻公松鼠。 (Nǐ de zhàopiàn kàn qǐlai xiàng yī zhī gōng sōngshǔ.) Your photo looks like it's a male squirrel. I've opted out of commenting on the second sentence!! 母 (mǔ) used for female animals 公 (gōng) used for male animals Hmm, example sentences for those... let me leave those to our imaginative users ;) OK, these are in the running for the most original sentences, but maybe we need some more material!

June 15, 2007 at 3:51 AMAll right, Connie and I are ready and waiting if anyone wants to give this sentence structure a try! Try and make your own sentence with 看起来 (kàn qǐlai). The most original sentence wins ;)

June 15, 2007 at 3:42 AMhi kitty, Often for set expressions, the pinyin is linked together. I can add the grouped form of the pinyin here, if that helps to clarify: 打肿脸充胖子 (dǎzhǒng liǎn chōng pàngzi)
