Until today, 穿 always meant wear to me. Now I know it also means crossing or passing through.

In Xian's Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (大雁塔), there's a sign at the top of the entrance to the Men's washroom that says "離苦得樂" (Leave suffering and attain happiness). When I saw the sign, I immediately translated it as "Pee and be happy!" 庙让我联想到大雁塔。我说这句话是对不对？Please correct my Chinese if I am wrong.

What is alligator meat called in Mandarin? Cajun restaurants serve them. Or is it crocodile meat?

Five years ago, while driving my Chinese friends to a lunch get-together, one of them asked: "Art, In English, how do you say my mother's sister's daughter who is younger than I?" And I said, "Cousin." He thought Anglo-Westerners have an equivalent word for 表妹。:-)

There is no better way to learn Mandarin than learning how to use it to compliment women. :-) Heck, if my Chinese language teachers in elementary school and high school had taught Mandarin to help young boys woo girls, I wouldn't need Chinesepod today! ;-)
