Posted on: The Yellow and Green Spectrum of Meaning
March 13, 2010 at 4:55 PMIn the US we've an interesting "green" expression that has a German equivalent: Someone is a "greenhorn" if they are inexperienced at doing something.
In German Grünschnabel [green beak] is a "greenhorn."
Then there is "Green behind the ears." This is a variation of "Wet behind the ears." Both mean immature and inexperienced. And, yes, "Dry behind the ears," means experienced, and mature.

(B) 你拉我一下吧。Drag me up
I've never heard "drag me UP." Drag has the sense of pulling on a surface. "Pull me up" is better here.

January 26, 2010 at 5:10 PMAs weibwo and xiasi point out, English is a very "loosely coupled" language. Words tend to be more general, i. e., less restrictive. One can change jobs, homes, girlfriends, opinions, clothes, appearance, personalities, etc. etc.

January 17, 2010 at 4:19 PMSince some of you use CPod to learn English, I have a minor translation change for one the the lesson's examples:
我有两个房子,一个在市区,另外一个在海边。
I have two houses. One is in the city and the other one is on the beach.
Either at the seaside or at the beach is better. "On the beach" means on the sand itself, i. e., 在海滩上.
While some people do have homes on the beach, it's rare because of the obvious dangers.
