I also like this lesson idea. Haven't listened to it yet, but the topic is what makes Chinesepod unique

I like this topic.

Qingwen has done about a kagillion-bagillion episodes on grammar and all that stuff. Chinesepod currently doesn't have a culture show because BST got cancelled, so mixing in some cultural stuff into Qingwen until there's a replacement for BST makes sense.

One explanation for what you asked about the US is that the United States is the most populous western country in the world, and in one of the top three biggest countries in the world. Also, Hollywood has always dominated the film/TV show industry. Like it or not, Hollywood is the biggest center for everything that involves acting/actor/actresses.

okay, thanks. Now I have another related question:

My pleco dictionary is showing two different entries for 辣子. One of the 2 readings shown is là zi, just like you said, but there is also another one that shows là zǐ. Any explanation for this? I don't mind the confusion, I just want to understand

hi, I have a question. Is 辣子鸡 pronounced là zǐ jī or là zi jī ?

In this lesson, I think it's prnounced là zǐ jī , but my pleco dictionary shows it with a neutral tone

hi Connie, I have a question. There is a sentence from the dialogue that I'm confused about.

啊,吸血鬼来了!他要吸我的血。

The person says 吸血鬼 and pronounces it as: xīxuèguǐ , but then she says the word 血 and pronounces it as xiě .

What's going on here?
