November 1, 2012 at 4:35 PMI just learned that in some Caribbean English and West African languages, there is no difference between hand and arm. For example, if someone punched you just underneath your shoulder, this could be "punching your hand". Sometimes differences in culture manifest themselves in language or vice versa. Ask any Chinese where the line between purple and pink lies, and it will likely be different from a North American's, for example. We all have general ideas, but defining the perimeters is tricky.

November 1, 2012 at 4:09 PMIf the 人民币（对美元）汇率上升, this actually means the RMB is appreciating. When the 人民币汇率下降, the RMB is depreciating. With the first, you only need a few RMB to get one dollar (higher RMB value). With the second you need more RMB to get one dollar (lower RMB value). Feel free to respond if you have any questions - I find this type of stuff to be really useful when discussing anything in China.

Mahjong, on the other hand, necessitates having a group of people, and on top of that, a group of people who understand the game. One is a solitary activity, the other, a communal one.
