Interesting that 汉堡 hànbǎo means both Hamburg and hamburger. 我想吃汉堡。 wǒ xiǎng chī hànbǎo. I want to eat Hamburg!

This is a bit off topic, but it is one of the vocab., so...I've noticed in Taiwan that no one says 再见 (zàijiàn)...it seemed everyone would just say bai bai (transliteration of bye bye). Are there other ways of saying bye in Taiwan? Funny story from my last visit to Taipei, before I knew Taiwanese don't say 再见. I was outside of my friend's apartment talking to this little boy (maybe 6 years old) who was riding his bike. We were speaking half Mandarin, half English (his English was really good). Anyway, he says he has to go and starts to ride off, so I say "再见"....at this point he's about 20 yards away, looks back and yells in perfect English "NO CHINESE!"

light487, that sentence is actually one of the expansion sentences. Most, if not all, of the sentences in the exercises come straight from the expansion.

Auntie, you were right. I found that lesson (upper intermediate): Choosing a Wine 葡萄酒 pútaojiǔ = wine 白葡萄酒 báipútaojiǔ = white wine 白酒 báijiǔ = white (clear) rice liquor

Oh dear Auntie, no need to apologize. Really. We all have our buttons, and when the wrong person pushes one, it can send us over the edge. I know I have a couple more than I'd like to say! I think I can speak for the majority at CPod, and say we had your back. You don't have anything to feel bad about, and it's already water under the bridge :) Ah, and as usual, thanks for additional info....on wine. I'll see if I can find that lesson.

Thanks Frances and RJ...sounds like it could be fun in very small doses. I think at 80 proof, I'd be drunk after one shot - can't drink like the good ole days! But I think I could look forward to a couple shots of 白酒 to go along with a few 鸡脚....mmmmmm.

Nice episode... What's the difference between 白酒 (bai jiu) and white wine in the west? It sounds like 红酒 (hong jiu) is similar to western red wine, but the 白酒 sounds similar to an absinthe or other high proof spirit.
