March 24, 2008 at 12:25 AMLOL Auntie68!!! That's about the best explanation I've ever gotten. I didn't even think about 没有头脑 (méiyǒu tóunǎo) literally meaning "not having a brain" (i.e. dead). And then I guess, if she was dead from having no brain, she probably wouldn't be 很漂亮 (hěn piàoliang) either!

March 23, 2008 at 10:28 PMI'm probably over-thinking this, but I'm wondering about the use of 很 and 没什么 in this expansion sentence: 她很漂亮，但是没什么头脑。 tā hěn piàoliang, dànshì méi shénme tóunǎo. (She's really pretty, but she doesn't have any brains.) Why not use 真 (zhēn) instead of 很 (hěn)...and 没有 (méiyǒu) instead of 没什么 (méi shénme)...so that the sentence would be: 她真漂亮，但是没有头脑。 tā zhēn piàoliang, dànshì méiyǒu tóunǎo. Thanks.

March 23, 2008 at 5:44 PMIs the 儿 (er) necessary in the following words? 没事儿 méishìr it's nothing 有事儿 yǒushìr to have a problem I know the Beijing dialect often adds 儿 to words. Just wondering if it'd be fine, in other parts of China, to say 没事 (méishì) and 有事 (yǒushì). Thanks!
