Exactly speaking, Japanese Kanji characters fall somewhere between simplified and traditional Chinese characters. Japan officially started using simplified Kanji soon after the war, but the degree of simplification in Japan is "modest" compared to that in the PRC. Below are some exmaples. Please be noted that there are still lots of characters in common, just like 我, among the three character sets.
Traditional.....機，學，單，藝，我
Japanese.......機，学，単，芸，我
Simplified.......机，学，单，艺，我

I think you are right. In this case, you can also just say, 我也一样, which I often use when I want to say "it's the same for me". Incidentally, "instant coffee" is translated as "速溶咖啡" (su4rong2ka1fei1) in Chinese. The most well known brand in the PRC is, of course, 雀巢 (Nescafe, que4chao2). I just can't live without this here, hehe.

November 11, 2009 at 1:23 AMI have several books on the history of characters in the world. These books have one thing in common. They all show "very poorly handwritten" example Chinese characters and Japanese kanji. I always suspect that Western people don't have an eye for beauty of Chinese characters, hehe. Below is another proof of this "hypothesis".
