January 5, 2009 at 7:12 AMIt seems that I and my chubby dog have been damaging the environment by eating meat and fish, haha. But instead, I'm very careful not to waste food, water, electricity (and money) in everyday life. For example, I always try to turn off showers that are wastefully running "without fail" at public saunas here in China. There are many ways you can save our Earth.

January 5, 2009 at 3:11 AMLooks like Yankee Doodle (洋基歌, yang2 ji1 ge1) is popular even outside the US. Japan also has the local version of Yankee Doodle. Funnily enough, its lyrics are about Alpine dance, but not about Americans.

P/S. The New York Yankees (纽约洋基队, niu3 yue1 yang2 ji1 dui4).

January 4, 2009 at 6:46 AMHi jenny,
Gee, it's too late, but I should have posted the comment after your posting! Incidentally, is it also OK to say "那里" (nei4 li3) and "那么" (nei4 me)? I'm rather confusing. And may I have any other examples that can be pronounced "nei" ?

January 4, 2009 at 6:27 AMHi dedlam,
That's a good question. I was just thinking the same thing. Let me tell you my tentative answer. As you already know, 这 (zhei4), 那 (nei4) and 哪 (nei3) are all shortened forms of 这一 (zhe4 yi1), 那一 (na4 yi1) and 哪一 (na3 yi1) respectively.
By the same token, for example, 那些/那边 can be also pronounced as "nei4 xie1/nei4 bian1", because these words are originally 那一些/那一边. However there is no such word as 那一里, and that is the reason it only has the pronunciation "na4 li3".

January 4, 2009 at 5:18 AMHi rclinton,
You are right. 互相帮助 means "help each other". There are some other "互相" phrases, such as 互相鼓励 (gu3li4, encourage), 互相安慰 (an1wei4, comfort), 互相保护 (bao3hu4, protect), 互相交流 (jiao1liu3, communicate, exchange), and 互相尊重 (zun1zhong4, respect).

There are many ways you can move back the doomsday date.
