April 12, 2008 at 2:27 AMHi Chinesepod, Would you please kindly delete my following comments and this one in this thread, since there is no raison d’etre anymore after zhangyanlin’s comments were all deleted. I would not like to confuse other poddies by those irrelevant comments. Thank you in advance. 2008-04-11 17:05:59 2008-04-11 18:51:58 2008-04-11 22:57:35

April 11, 2008 at 9:05 AMHi zhangyanlin, Let me help you interpret the above 七言絶句. I guess it might be one of patriotic slogans chanted during Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979. The slogan seems to encourage people to attack Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, of which old name was Tonkin (东京) . The population of China in 1979 was almost just one billion, which also fortifies my assumption.

April 11, 2008 at 6:51 AMSome people might say “还是自己家好” even when they return home from a gorgeous around-the-world tour or an exciting Star Trek voyage. I could be one of them. Btw, my chubby dog has no own 狗窝, so she sleeps in the same bed with me every night. I just want her to stop snoring (打呼噜, da3 hu1 lu)!

April 11, 2008 at 3:21 AMHi hitokiri6993, Interestingly, some BoPoMoFo (ㄅㄆㄇㄈ) and Japanese hiragana/katakana are similar in shape, e.g. ㄌ(カ),ㄑ(く), ㄙ(ム), ㄘ(ち), ㄨ(メ), ㄆ(タ), ㄜ(さ), and ㄝ(せ), which is because both 注音符号 and 日本假名 were invented utilizing Chinese characters. 注音符号 was originally introduced in 1918 as a future replacement for Chinese characters, but fortunately the phonograms couldn’t achieve the original objective both in China and in Taiwan. I tried to memorize 注音符号 several times but without success.
