April 20, 2013 at 12:32 PMYep, we were using iPads to record. I always find listening to my own voice on playback sounds strange, whatever language!

April 20, 2013 at 5:02 AMA huge thanks to all the Chinesepod staff that gave up their time this morning. It was great to meet/see you again! Really enjoyed the session and found it very useful. Also nice to meet some fellow poddies. Here's to many more meet ups!

April 19, 2013 at 6:32 AMDepends where you work mate. Officially it is only Weds 1 May itself that is the holiday. At our place, they are time-shifting the preceding weekend such that Monday and Tuesday are days-off, but we have to work the Saturday and Sunday. In practice, this means we have a consecutive 7-day work week next week, followed by a 3 day break. However, I know that many of my MNC clients in Shanghai are giving their staff the Monday and Tuesday off AND they can keep the preceding weekend off as normal, so essentially a 5-day break. I believe I'm right in saying that government offices adopt the same practice as my workplace.

April 19, 2013 at 3:53 AMSo who is coming tomorrow then?! Judging by last year's Shanghai meet up, there will be a significant number of people.

April 18, 2013 at 1:09 PMMike, I agree. It is the lack of context that makes the expansion sentences (particularly at the higher levels) so difficult. I also prefer to use them initially as listening comprehension practice. However, sometimes to mix it up I use them as reading practice first and then have a listen - cheating a little I know, but I still get listening comprehension value out of it.

April 14, 2013 at 6:27 AMI love the way one needs to be anything but slovenly and sloppy when actually writing the Hanzi for 邋遢!! That first character is one of the most complex I've come across...

April 21, 2013 at 7:00 AMHa, I'm glad darkstar94 raised this. I had exactly the same feeling. Now that I'm doing more and more UI lessons, I often come across sentences that take me a while to get my head around. This was a good example.
