August 9, 2012 at 1:01 AMmate, it's certainly not without precedent for me to be wrong ;-) I know that Northern Ireland is definitely not one of the six nations in the rugby tournament. I also know that for football (soccer) there are separate NI and ROI teams. For the rugby, I don't know how strict the nationality rules are and whether NI lads are permitted to play for the Ireland team (or English or any other team for that matter). Or indeed whether for rugby purposes Ireland = combined ROI and NI. Must admit, I've never actually thought about it that much though! I'd be interested in your findings.

August 9, 2012 at 12:27 AMnot aware of any occasions when ROI and NI get together for sporting events. When "Ireland" is used on its own, it means ROI, e.g. in the six nations rugby, Ireland = ROI. Word of warning, even with a relatively successful peace process of 15 years or so now, this remains a political hot potato!
regarding your query on the Great of Great Britain - I'm sure the Welsh would like to think so! I'm not aware of any distinction between Britain and Great Britain. I think it's just a convenience thing - gets a bit tiring to keep saying Great Britain rather than just Britain. Also, let's be honest, the mauling our economy and global standing have taken in the last 50-60 years might call into question the "Great" part, much as I hate to admit it. There you go mate, a bit of (Great) British self-depracation for good measure.

August 9, 2012 at 12:13 AMbaba, siteng, sat here looking at my passport (as you do!), the cover states "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Consequently, I would deduce that Great Britain alone is technically England, Wales and Scotland, but when those three are combined with Northern Ireland we get the UK. In fact, if you look at the Olympic medal table on the BBC website it says GB & NI, which also supports the above.

August 9, 2012 at 12:04 AMbaba, from a brief reading of the Mars coverage by some of the red-top newspapers back home, it seems the mohawk guy has himself attracted a bit of ogling from the watching masses and set a few hearts afluttering!

August 9, 2012 at 1:54 AMColin, I often get this problem as well. Solutions that seem to work for me:-
1) Refresh the page
2) If that fails, right-click on the 'dialogue' tab and click "open in new tab" or "open in new window".
