December 22, 2011 at 10:19 AMI think there may be a cultural difference of what "middle aged" means. To me (mid 30s Brit), I think of 45 to about 60 as middle aged. From the Chinese I've spoken with about this (admittedly few) it seems the term 中年 is used for a slightly older age bracket. Anyone else got thoughts on this?

December 12, 2011 at 4:24 AMI get this all the time too. Whilst it pains me to say it as a Brit, statistically it's the safest bet. Of all the nationalities represented by white folks, American is likely to be the highest individual portion, hence statistically most likely. I never know the latest politically correct terms for ethnicity, but in a similar vein Chinese is a statistically safe bet of nationality going the other way. Hope I haven't opened a pandora's box with this one.
Oh, I think assume is 假定 (jia3 ding4)
