May 12, 2011 at 12:23 AMFor those in China whose interest I've piqued, you can listen to this recorded message by simply calling your own cellphone number from your own China Mobile cellphone (since by definition the line will be busy!)

May 12, 2011 at 12:12 AMCan anyone quickly tell me the Chinese recording you get when a China Mobile user dials another China Mobile user from their cellphone but the line is busy. It's bugged me for years! I can understand the message you get if the other person's phone is off, but I never understand the message when the line is simply busy. I think it starts with 您拨打电话住在。。。。
This is by far the most common China Mobile recorded message I hear. Much appreciated!

May 9, 2011 at 2:00 AMIf I recall correctly it was around xmas 09 that Ken moved on. When you go to the Library tab at the top and click through to Elementary, the lessons are listed in chronological order. If you start from January 2010 then the Eles will be either John + Jenny or John + Dilu.

May 8, 2011 at 1:21 PMBased on my experience the last 4-5years, it seems there are at least a couple of days of snow in SH each year where it will actually settle. The most I remember was around CNY in 2008 where it set properly and stayed for a few days. More often it settles for a few hours and then melts.

May 8, 2011 at 4:32 AM有爱心 - when describing somebody, is the 有 absolutely necessary, or is it possible to just say 他很爱心？ I am thinking that because 爱心 is a noun, then it needs a 有 in front of it. If that's the case, is there an adjective version of it that means "compassionate" or "kind"?

May 7, 2011 at 3:52 PMI have only ever known 否则 to mean "otherwise" (I believe I learnt it in a Chinesepod lesson at some point). Are 否则 and 要不然 totally interchangeable? Any nuances specific to either of them that we should know about?

In English, I think we could both say this in current and past tenses, e.g. "I only understand one sentence 'I'm sorry'. I don't understand the rest", or "I only understood one sentence 'I'm sorry'. I didn't understand the rest".
This got me thinking about our beloved 了. Would it also be grammatically correct to say the following in Chinese?:
我只听得懂了一句‘对不起’，其他的都听不懂了
