Posted on: Who's Been Spending My Money?
March 22, 2015 at 3:06 AMCan someone help me with the Expansion sentence 那孩子跌倒了,摔得一脸泥巴。(The child fell over and muddied his face). I understand the first part of the sentence, but I'm struggling with the grammar in the second part. I get that "niba" is mud and "shuai" is to drop to the ground and "lian" in this case is literally referring to the kid's face, but i just don't understand the grammar structure.

March 21, 2015 at 1:47 PMIs Sunix still around? His mannerisms in the dialogues always made me laugh (and also helped the content stick)!

March 18, 2015 at 3:06 PMI'm very lazy and have just had a grade 2 all over for as long as I can remember. I either ask for 平头 (píngtóu = crewcut) or a 两毫米 (liǎngháomǐ = Grade 2, literally 2 millimetre).

I found this group really useful a few years ago when I was making the jump from Ele to Intermediate and am again finding it useful now that I've decided to have another crack at this language!

March 8, 2015 at 8:56 PMI just checked the glossary. Seems the way to do it is to just switch the sentence around a bit, eg 'ni de qian gou by gou?'. Will remember to check the glossary before posting queries in future! By the way the glossary sample sentences are very good. useful learning tool.

March 8, 2015 at 8:41 PMI picked up the point about 'gou' not being able to come before a noun and the example of 'gou qian' that you used. But did you then explain the correct way to say 'do you have enough money'? I have always said 'ni you gou qian ma?' But I'm worried this is incorrect now!!

March 22, 2015 at 4:18 AMJust to help manage expectations of Newbies coming to Shanghai, the RMB3,500 mentioned in the lesson is more like a weekly rent rather than monthly if you want a decent 2-bed place in downtown Shanghai!! You'd need to get quite a bit out of the centre to find a 2-bed place for RMB3,500 a month.
