February 21, 2008 at 4:08 AMchris, Amber is off today, but ill straighten you out. In Mandarin, they often use 很 (hěn) just for the sake of it. It just sounds better. So it doesn't have the same extremity as "very" does in English. You would most likely hear a ”非常“ if they wanted to emphasize "really".
Posted on: "Thinking" in Chinese: 觉得 (juéde), 认为 (rènwéi) and 以为 (yǐwéi)
February 21, 2008 at 3:46 AMsballa, In your example, "Is it going to snow today?" it would fall short if you just said ""Wǒ juéde" you would say, 我觉得会 (wǒ juéde huì) I think so or 我觉得不会 (wǒ juéde bù huì) I dont think so

February 21, 2008 at 3:01 AMandrewm, I used to want the same thing as a previous listener, and then i realized that it is advantageous to not have every single word in a podcast transcribed (and now that i work here, it would also be a major task). Especially as I gravitated towards the written aspect of Mandarin. It is a great accomplishment to jump up to the next level, but the transition does require a bit of a struggle. Stay with it, you'll be there soon!

February 19, 2008 at 2:33 AMyase, Yep. We eat soup, they drink it. So, even if Donovan McNabb's mother serves you a bowl of Chunky, you still "drink" it.
