February 28, 2008 at 2:12 AMtexastochina, Its not what you think my friend. That is a guy. This advanced level may be out of your grasp, so il do a quick translation of the intro for you. it is an interesting story about a Korean "actress" that in the end was a man. Korean transsexual movie star He Lixiu brazenly changed from a man to woman. On top of that in '07 there was a lavish wedding. Today things are more and more lenient, so transsexuals are becoming more accepted. What are your views on transsexuals? Do you think of those who undergo sex change operations can fall in love and become happily married? Together lets study and discuss today's lesson.

February 26, 2008 at 4:22 AMfacybb, 打开 (dǎkāi) : verb + complement 开 (kāi) :verb. 打开 (dǎkāi)and 开 (kāi) both have the meaning "open". ex: 打开书 (dǎ kāi shū) open your books。 we can not say 开书 (kāi shū) It is a regular collocation, but you can say 打开门 (dǎ kāi mén) open the door 开门 (kāi mén) open the door or 打开电脑 (dǎ kāi diànnǎo) start your computer 开电脑 (kāi diànnǎo) start your computer

February 26, 2008 at 2:40 AMsballa, When you use the 比 pattern, adding the typical modifiers AFTER 比 (bǐ) throws it off. 有点儿 (yǒudiǎnr) 很 (hěn),非常 (fēicháng),真(zhēn)。 but, here is how you can: 今天的天气比昨天好多了。 (jīntiān de tiānqì bǐ zuótiān hǎoduō le) 今天的天气比昨天好得多。 (jīntiān de tiānqì bǐ zuótiān hǎo de duō

February 26, 2008 at 1:50 AMLadies and Gents, We have a great new exercise that we just added (#3 Listen and Choose), but we are ironing out one kink. When you try and type using a Chinese input, it will come up blank. So you'll have to use pinyin for the time being, which I think is more of a challenge.

February 28, 2008 at 6:29 AMpeirrem, 你吃饭了吗? I learned this when I lived down south, in Haikou. I have not heard one person say it here in Shanghai though, although the girls tell me it can be heard, but its more for the old timers. Also, I generally hear this used as 吃饭了没有 (chī fàn le méiyǒu)? Again, this was more specific to Hainan. 下班了吗? You can indeed use this for a greeting, but this is more specific to the time frame which is normally after work. (as opposed to the previous)
