January 28, 2008 at 7:42 AMpaulc In your first two example sentences, you cannot substitute out 没 (mei2) with 不 (bu)。 And you also cannot use 没 (mei2) to replace 不 (bu) in the 不怎么样 (bu4 zen3me5yang4) sentence.. The reason why is because in these two sentences, 没多少 (mei2 duo1shao3) 没多大 (mei2 duo1da4) The 有 (you3) is implied. Therefore you can actually say; 没有多少 (mei2 you3 duo1shao3) 没有多大 (mei2 you3 duo1da4) Also, the sentence 不怎么样 (bù zěnmeyàng) is old Chinese meaning ordinary or so-so, and it is just said in this manner. -clay

January 28, 2008 at 1:00 AMThat is craziness. I personally haven't been approach for tea by any of the locals, but it obviously happens here in Shanghai. I first heard about it when Bazza was here visiting. Until then, I had never heard of such a thing.
