January 29, 2008 at 2:30 AMtylersjzu, We upgraded to a different server, so some of the material got affected in the process. That ,and the first podcasts were recorded in a different format, with the latest providing better quality. We are constantly upgrading the older lessons, and aim to have them a 100% before long. if you see specific problem, please let us know. -clay

January 29, 2008 at 1:54 AMlustchina, if you want to be lord of the tones, not only do you have to be able to speak them properly, you have to be able to discern them, which is arguably harder. What helped me get over the tone hump (or mountain rather) was listening to vocab lists and trying to write the pinyin with proper tone. After a year of college mandarin, i would only get about 20% right. But after doing this drill, i was able to finally differentiate them. a good way you can use ChinesePod for this is to go to the vocab section and either do your best to keep yours eyes off the middle of the screen, or tape up a piece of paper to keep the pinyin from you, and click on the horn to hear it pronounced, and then write it down.

January 29, 2008 at 1:43 AMRash, You nearly pulled off the quad yībiān sentence, but it had a little mistake. it should be as follows: 每天我都一边工作,一边跟中国朋友聊MSN,一边用Chinesepod词典,一边练习中文。 The beginning got ya! AZERDocMom, You are the official yībiān queen! 4 yībiān's! Connie suggests adding commas just before each yībiān to make it grammatically correct, but we wont hold that against you. And to everyone, This was just a fun way to learn a sentence pattern, and it should be noted while as it is grammatically correct, two yībiān's is the norm.

January 28, 2008 at 9:11 AMsuburbanite, It is not as commonly used in China like it is in the west, but the word 风寒 ( fēnghán) would best decribe it. Literally wind and cold.
