For iphones and android phones, Hotspot Shield is pretty reliable and very cheap (about 60 US cents per month). It also compresses your data to make it load faster. Great for my 0.5G cellphone connection that's supposed to be 3G.....!

Before you come to China, download Freegate. It's a little bit flaky, but it's free. You can't download it IN China, unless you already have another VPN.

I've come across this "麻烦你" construction for talking to service workers, and employees who work 'under' you. Is it ok to use this with people who are your peers? For example people who are in my team and do the same job as me, or people who are my friends? Or is there a better way to ask for a favour?

I'm not sure if the other lessons were the same. I usually stream the soundtracks and videos rather than downloading them. In this case, I just thought the video was a bit too small to see the ingredients properly.

By 'watching without downloading' I mean clicking the 'play' button and streaming the video.

I tried to download it so I could watch it in full screen, but I only have windows media player and quicktime on my computer which both can't play the .flv file that I downloaded.

Another question: why is it a .flv file, and not a .mp4 as the link title says?

I really enjoyed this lesson. However, is there a way we can watch it full screen in the browser (without downloading I mean)? Or at least make the video window bigger. :-)

I know you can't use the Shanghai one in Beijing (I tried!). I have a Beijing card left over from my last trip there, I might try it in Shanghai next time I take a subway and get back to you!

If you buy a transport card (20 yuan refundable deposit) there's no problem. You can just swipe in at the other station and continue your journey as normal, as long as you do it within 20 minutes or so.
