I normally agree with not too many words on a PPT slide, but now I work in China where a lot of my colleagues have very poor English skills, and I am not good enough to give a presentation in Chinese yet! I am also frequently presenting on the phone which makes the language barrier even harder. So now I am including more words on my slide, just to make sure my presentation can be followed. I at least put the key message of each slide in a box at the bottom, below my graphs etc.

Yey, this is one I asked for! Nice alliteration!

On an unrelated topic, is alliteration as effective in Chinese if you choose characters starting with the same pinyin letter?

Wow, I really loved having the words in Chinese characters and Pinyin up on the screen during the dialogue. It' smuch easier than what I usually do, which is to hover the mouse over the dialogue tab during the podcast. This would make studying from my iphone much easier. I agree with previous comments that the closeups of Jenny's mouth are not that useful. Hope you can do this for all the levels.

Fascinating topic, really enjoyed this show. It's good to learn about topics where local Chinese people are also uncertain about the facts, and a have a little debate. :-)

Characters are "五角" (5 jiao), as in one half of a RMB. As I understand it, the term refers to people who are paid to make posts on internet forums to promote a particular agenda, and their payment is 五角 per post.

Haha, thanks! Actually I haven't run into many Chinese internet trolls. My Chinese internet acquaintances seem to be very polite. :-) I have come across a few "wu jiao" though!

I agree, this is a very helpful lesson. I often get blank/disappointed looks from my Chinese aquaintances when I say I am learning Chinese on the internet, and I would like to be able to convey just how comprehensive and instructive it is. The truth is, I used to have a face to face teacher once per week, and I feel like I spent a lot of money without remembering much. ChinesePod suits my needs much better, and I am learning faster with it.

I didn't know the name of the actor, but I have seen American History X. Amazing film!

In the UK, we use the term "wife beater" to refer to a certain brand of beer! I've never heard it used for clothing before. Thanks for the picture.
