I worked in Hospitality in the US for several years and while people do occasionally bring their own bottle of wine (maybe for a special occasion) to a restaurant, it's not super common. I've never heard of someone bringing their own beer to a restaurant, and certainly not their own peanuts, as our friend in the dialogue did!!

We often say BYOB in the US, but that's limited to parties/picnics/camping, etc.

Not sure about ooh aah Africa (and baba, 南非 is South Africa, 非洲 is the African continent) , but below is a translation of Shakira's Waka Waka song in Chinese....tragically, no onomatopaeic translations, but...it's kinda fun!

We call them pig piles or dog piles or just piles and I don't know about other countries, but they are a true hallmark of victory in sports in the USA. Witness below the greatest sporting memory of my childhood:

卡卡 and 梅西are perhaps more useful names, but my far my favorite Chinese transliteration of a player's name in this world cup is: 查巴拉拉 Tshabalala. The play-by-play guys on CCTV5 sounded positively joyous every time they said his name.

南非都出局了世界杯,这么可怜!
Nánfēi dōu chūjúle shìjièbēi, zhème kělián!
South Africa is out of the World Cup already, such a pity!

Yeah, ping pong's a huge deal and all but I personally refuse to recognize it as a sport. If octegenarians can regularly hold their own with twenty-somethings playing the game, I don't believe it qualifies as a sport. Nothing against ping-pong playing elderly folk, I think they're great and I love watching them play. I just don't understand classifying that activity along with football...that is, two consecutive 45-minute sessions of nearly uninterrupted running, kicking, ball-dribbling, jumping, slide-tackling activity separated only by a 15-minute break. I'm sorry, ping pong fans. They're in two completely different categories.

I sincerely hope my 85 year old tennis-pro grandfather doesn't read these comment boards.

Yeah I noticed that. I'll mention it on Thursday. Can't promise how high up the To-Fix list it'll be though. ;)

Several Expo pavilions are screening the games, too....wow, if we could watch the games in real-time on Brazil's 4D wraparound screens.....must check that out!!
