I believe it's called 澳式咖啡 because the term "flat white" originates in Australia. I'd never heard of them before coming to Shanghai!

I don't know if it's just the end of the day and I'm tired or what, but this really made me giggle...pretzellogic, have you ever had an airplane-free CPod avatar?

Hi Hennie,

Have you had a look at the PinYin pronunciation guide here on the site? This page might be especially helpful: http://chinesepod.com/tools/pronunciation/section/3

The main difference between the "c" sound and the "z" sound in cai and zai is that "z" is voiced (you vibrate your vocal cords when you say it) and "c' is not.

Don't be discouraged if it's difficult to distinguish at the beginning, you just need lots of practice listening, so keep at the podcasts and dialogues!

It's so true...every sign language speaker's "voice" is individual, just as the spoken voice is. I recently met a deaf Chinese woman who had THE single most expressive face I have ever seen on an Asian. An expressive face is a huge aid in sign language, because in many cases, adjectives and adverbs are basically expressed in the face, not the actual sign. She was absolutely a joy to watch when she spoke.
