大家好!Thanks for this very interesting lesson!

Now comes my rather general question (not only) for John about pronouncing exercise.

My tongue is still lousily akward in repeating some of the longer dialogue sentences. How should one proceed: to decelerate the velocity of the spoken sentence in a first step,  to separate long sentences into blocks, and only  after that trying to speed up bit to get the desired fluency? Chinese people very often don't understand me at all if I'm not speaking in a certain contingent fluency.

thanks bodawei,

I guess you are completely right. It is a typical English/German mistake to translate this emphatical "just" with 而已

perhaps I might have used in this context the zhen1de 真的 or que4shi2 确实 to express my emphasis.

By the way: how would you translate the english " so far so good"?

大家好!

说某人 can have the meaning to scold,to criticise, to rebuke sb.

for instance like

妈妈从来没说过我们 (ma1ma1 cong2lai2 mei2 shuo1guo° wo3men) mother never scolded us (the kids)

or

母亲说了 她几句,她现在赌气不回家( mu3qin shuo1 le ta1 ji3ju4,ta1 xian4zai4 du3qi4 bu4 hui2 jia1)

mother rebuked her, now she is sulking and doesn't come back home

I think "娶" ( qu3) is usually said when a man marries a woman whereas 嫁给某人(jia4 gei3 mou3 ren2) means that a woman " is given" to a man. 结婚 (jie2 hun1 ) would be the neutral term for both women and men
