Dear Pete, I saw Licha's post in the morning and there were some links that he provided regarding other useful chinese sites. I didn't have time to view them as I was going out for my CNY visitation. When I came back last night, the post was gone.

I agree with RJ. I don't remember it as being a vicious post. Maybe you can re-post it for all to judge. If you can't, can you provide me the links that Licha gave? I'll like to check it out (like I usually check out other poddies tips on helpful links)

Thanks for your explanation and the link. Today, during my Chinese New Year visitation, I met a china lady. Asked her the same question. Her explanation is the same as yours: "把门带上“ is sort of something you do "by the way". But she said it is more of a “口语话”，not one you would choose to use in written form.

There is actually a link on "christianity in chinese characters" but I can't find it now. That was how I got fascinated with the chinese language which led me to sign up with Cpod one year ago.

My explanation on "我" is that it consists of ”手“ ("hand", on the left) and "戈" ("weapon", on the right). Put them together and you get ‘我’ (weapon in hand)

I'm fascinated that ancient rituals used lamb '羊' as sacrifices when the bible and the chinese language shows this to be the way for me to be righteous "義" (lamb over me)

Using the bible will certainly help us to understand chinese characters. Another example is '船' (boat). It consists of '舟' (boat) on the left and '八口' on the right. Join them together and you get "船“. During the Great Flood in Genesis 6, there were 8 people (八口) in the boat (舟) that Noah built. That is certainly an easy way to remember boat in chinese.

I was fascinated that many chinese characters had their origin in the bible. If I can find the link to it, I'll post it

In the dialogue, there is this phrase: 把门带上. I've never heard it used in my country. Usually, it is 把门关上.  Are there different emphasis for each?

Here's my 2-cents worth of contribution.

The word "我" is made up of "手" (hand) and "戈" (weapon)

In the 1st recorded murder in the Bible (when Cain killed his brother Abel in Genesis Chpt 4), there must have been a weapon in his hand (Thus the word "我"）

With this murder, comes the need for a "羊" (lamb) to be over "我" (me) in order for me to be made righteous. Thus, righteousness is "義" (lamb over me) in traditional chinese.

In the Bible, Jesus is called the "Lamb of God" (羊）who came for me ("我") to make me righteous "義"

Thanks for broadening my understanding on "羊". These are bonuses that I appreciate Cpod for.

In the Bible, Jesus 被称 "神 的 羔 羊 ， 除 去 世 人 罪 孽 的 " (Jn 1:29)。For this reason, righteousness in 繁体 is written as "義" (lamb over me). For me to be righteous, I need the Lamb of God over me.
