Posted on: Why is everyone looking at me?
January 25, 2010 at 5:08 AMThis time of year, it wouldn't take me very long to notice if I were outside in only my underwear. Brrr! Thanks for another excellent (if weird) lesson, guys!
情况很奇,但是词汇有用! Qíngkuàng hěn qí, dànshì cíhuì yǒuyòng!

January 22, 2010 at 6:26 AMI like how you guys include background noise in your dialogues. Not only does it make them sound more authentic, but it also trains the ear for understanding authentic real-world Chinese (which almost always includes background noise).
As for astrology, when people ask me what my star sign is, I say "I don't believe in astrology. I'm a Gemini, and we're very skeptical people." How would I say that in Chinese?

January 21, 2010 at 1:11 AMI have a question. When is 睡觉 (shuìjiào) used instead of 睡 (shuì)?
Also, is this sentence correct?
我睡不着的时候,常常听音乐帮我睡着。
Wǒ shuìbuzháo de shíhou, chángchang tīng yīnyuè bāng wǒ shuìzháo.
"When I can't fall asleep, I often listen to music to help me fall asleep."

January 16, 2010 at 4:00 PMIs "另一个" just an abbreviation of "另外一个", or is there a difference?

January 14, 2010 at 5:30 AMI like how the character 灭 looks like 火 with something on top to smother it. A perfect representation of extinguishing a fire! :)
Posted on: 舍不得
January 9, 2010 at 10:03 PMIn the dialog, 舍不得 is transcribed as "shěbude", but it sounds to me like the "de" is second tone. Should it be "shěbudé", or are my ears deceiving me?

January 3, 2010 at 2:50 AM我知道两个很有用的新词了。“难道”还有“白痴”! ;-)

December 29, 2009 at 5:01 AMOr maybe we could have pop-up translations for all text on the site?
Speaking of which, I highly recommend anybody who uses Firefox to download the Perapera-kun add-on, which makes pop-up translations (much like in the ChinesePod dialogues) for any Chinese text you happen to come across.
http://perapera.wordpress.com/
But I certainly understand and respect the rules for Newbie and Elementary comments. So to review my Chinese sentences above:
2009年,我爱上了ChinesePod!祝大家新年快乐!
2009 nián, wǒ àishàng le ChinesePod! Zhù dàjiā xīnnían kuàilè!
In 2009, I fell in love with ChinesePod! I wish everyone a happy new year!

February 6, 2010 at 12:57 AMI think the best translation for 左右 (zuǒyòu) is "more or less".
