March 12, 2014 at 6:03 AMIt seems to me that our cultures differ in the following way:
- We as parents treat our children better than you do (we let them have fun as children, we let them have some freedom as teenagers, we let them choose their friends, we don't want them to worry about us when we are ill and so on.)
- You however treat your parents better than we do (you look after them better in their old age for example, you even listen to what they say and so on)
A compromise would be best I suppose

March 7, 2014 at 8:27 AMWe have similar schemes in UK. We don't however like using the option of putting the burdon of looking after us when we are old on our children. We prefer to be independent and let our children have a life of their own. Having said that I understand there are actually many middle aged people who do look after their aged parents.

March 7, 2014 at 5:40 AMI think sport is better than 'working out'. Not only is sport good for you, it can also be a great pleasure. One of the highlights of my week is to play badminton on Thursday evenings.
One great Chinese contribution to physical health is 太极拳 which in my view should be practiced as complementary to sport

I agree with you about the context specific translation, but I find that is a relatively rare bonus.

March 12, 2014 at 6:17 AM好容易 in supplementaray vocab is translated as 'not easy' instead of 'easy'.
I have a problem hearing the third tone correctly in the vocab pronunciation of 洁癖。 It sounds more like fourth tone to me. (compare with the pronunciation of third tone in 即使 which is also in this lesson)
