Hi

I have just tried again, and all is ok now!

It must be one of those annoying intermittent web features that we have to live with.

Did I come at this lesson at a bad time?

The only tab that works is the discussion tab. All the rest (dialogue, vocabulary, expansion, exercises ....) all produce errors.

From url:/lessons/%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%E7%AC%AC%E4%B8%80%E5%A4%AB%E4%BA%BA//exercises Invalid controller specified (%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%E7%AC%AC%E4%B8%80%E5%A4%AB%E4%BA%BA) #0 /var/www/chinesepod.com/current/chinesepod_store/library/Zend/Controller/Front.php(929): - See more at: http://chinesepod.com/lessons/%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%E7%AC%AC%E4%B8%80%E5%A4%AB%E4%BA%BA/#vocabulary-tab

I have recently started going through the expansion sentences as a way of testing my listening ability. I first play the recording and try to understand without looking at the text.

I sometimes find however that however hard I listen I just can't pick up the words. For example, in this week's lesson, the sentence:

顺着这条线索追查下去,肯定能抓到真凶。

is spoken so quickly that even when I look at the characters, I find it impossible to hear the 追查 as zhuicha.

I remember in other lessons, I still hear 含有 as 还有 ...

I find understanding some of them, as effectively they have no background context, a real trial.

Frankly, I am not sure what reaction I expect from this posting, but I just wanted to record my observations.

顺着这条线索追查下去,肯定能抓到真凶。

When I click on your link I get this: "This video contains content from EMI, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."

I think Alexyzye means that the translation in the PDF is wrong.

Chinese love to point out the error of your ways, and give you the benefit of their superior civilisation viewpoint!

I have found, for example, they are also experts on drinking wine (or not) although they have little if any cultural history or experience.

- Well, there's a national stereotype generalisation for you!

Actually, I have heard Chinese people use it. I have a feeling it is used in Taiwan for example.

The poor guy even has to ask her permission to play a computer game - and she says no!  What a life! Beware getting involved with this type of woman.

Indeed the lesson did not deal with women over 30. This seems to reflect the age of the Chinese pod team but not of it's users :-)
