As English is my second language I find the concept of Standard English rather... well useless. As an European my English is of course influenced by the British English. But equally influenced by the American English through the media I consume.

Language is a living thing, always evolving.

I think this topic was requested by an American cpoddie and for some reason the word "mysterious" found it's way also into the lesson title. Nothing mysterious in metric system from my Finnish perspective either ;-D

But really useful and good QW anyway.

I am not sure about the (normal) rulers, but at least the both Chinese retractable flexible rulers we have at home have both centimeters and inches.

(iPad app) I cannot download the audio examples from Grammar for the 如果 examples. When I clicked the "Play" button app showed a error note "cannot download something something".

Now all the 如果 examples look like they are downloaded (green ball) but clicking the "play" button does nothing (not even error note).

All the other audio examples work fine.

I think this expansion sentence is not at in the iPad App version of the lesson.

Actually it seems that 一起 expansion has completely different examples between app and chinesepod.com

诽闻 is interesting... many dictionaries do not recognize it. And I asked one of my Chinese colleagues and he was not familiar with it.

But then on the other hand at least "mdbg" knows it:

Why is ”gossip“ in Gossip Girl with 绯闻 (sex scandal) are not with 诽闻 (gossip)?

Mainlining. Did not realize that there is a term for this. Nice to learn also English from CP.

I mainlined(?) first season of Two Broke Girls (破产姐妹 = Bankruptcy Sisters) last weekend :-)
