December 1, 2011 at 5:45 AM我还没听到这节课,但是根据课文介绍,这个故事看来一本书叫《步步惊心》差不多一样。我目前看着这本书,是蛮好看的,直至现在是我最喜欢的中文书。

November 30, 2011 at 10:22 PMBoya Chinese 博雅汉语 I think is a great series. The books focus on the old HSK, but will prepare you for the new HSK as well. I've used these books to study Chinese in general and they prepared me to pass the HSK. I passed level 4 of the new HSK with almost a 100% on the exam, I'm sure I could pass the level 5 and maybe even the level 6 (note the new HSK has a total of 6 levels). The Boya series has 2 books at the 起步 篇level, 2 books at the 加速篇 level, 2 books at the 冲刺篇 level, and 2 books at the 飞翔篇 level. I'm currently half way through book 1, 冲刺篇。

November 26, 2011 at 2:39 AM@guolan - I get your point and agree, but the I think the problem with the Chinese tradition is that it is out of control... especially in the workplace (or at least my work). I work for a multinational company and we have hundreds of employees in our Shanghai location. In addition to weddings, there are dinners that people get invited to and at this it is also expected to give 红包. Then there is the whole thing of what is the appropriate amount to give.. odd numbers are bad luck (in some school of thoughts), obviously can't give 400RMB because this sounds too much like death... and on and on. If I went to every wedding dinner/wedding I was invited to I'd be giving away a small percentage of my salary each month... Family members is one thing, colleagues and the like are another....

November 25, 2011 at 5:33 AMYeah, the whole thing fo 红包 is a terrible tradition... I avoid weddings and wedding dinners like the plague because of this...

December 1, 2011 at 2:15 PMhmmm... I hope someone who is more skilled than me comes along to confirm what is correct, I'll give it a shot, though without any context it's always a dangerous thing... "In the recent years university educations are not as valuable." assuming this would be comparing to the past, where there are less university grads, or compared to the rising cost of tuition versus a salary after graduation.
