This lesson could probably be updated and made into a Ele or intermediate by bringing in more detail about the taxi ride from the airport. Or even more detail by bringing a need to give the taxi driver directions because the hostel is hard to find, and not that well known to locals.

I had to do this once. I was sending mahjong and Chinese Chess games to my friend in the US. The conversation was like,

"by air or by sea?"

we said, "how much by air?", and he replied (after some calculations) 689 RMB!

and then we said, "how much by sea?", and he replied, "134 RMB".

"how long will it take by sea?" we asked, and he said, 2 months.

We sent the package by sea.

Thanks for the link. Too bad it's in Chinese, and here I sit at intermediate level. I'll get there eventually.

Thanks Lujiaojie. Interesting that you can say the same thing, and have the same meaning in Chinese.

Having listened to this lesson once, i'm at the level where I need to listen to this lesson ten times before I understand 5% of what's being said.

That was my experience in the village as well. Most of the people kept their shoes on. The families with dirt floors did, as did the family with a cement floor.

many Americans do NOT take off their shoes, unless their cultural backgrounds have them do it. Or they do it for the same reasons that Asians (and I guess Iranians) do: they want clean floors/carpets. In Hawaii, I'd guess most Americans take off their shoes (big Asian influence), but I wouldn't say that about Illinois or the rest of the midwest. The US is a big place.

Wow, John, that explains a lot. Does Cpod have a specific metric around how often a word/phrase/sentence is used in order for it to be considered "high frequency"?

off topic: I'm not sure how much strength can be built through doing 12 ounce curls, but maybe it's just me....

ok, back to the spreadsheet with me.
