January 20, 2013 at 10:56 AMI think in the 50s, Americans said 'pizza parlor'. Nowadays, you get pizza from Pizza Hut, or you get pizza from Dominos, or you get pizza from |insert name of your favorite pizza place here.|

January 14, 2013 at 1:27 AMhehe, yeah Shimao_Xiansheng, it's interesting. Leaving the US also meant hanging out with more Australians, Brits, Russians, ABCs, New Zealanders, Germans, French, etc. It turns out that everyone points at everyone else and says some variation of, "you people eat THAT?? That's DISGUSTING!! You guys aren't as civilized as I gave you credit for!"

January 14, 2013 at 1:23 AMguolan, you were closer than I was trained to be. Yes, likely salt or pepper is appropriate. Apparently, sugar is not (if you're a true southerner, which I am not.)

January 13, 2013 at 1:48 AMSome examples of American Food:
- pulled pork sandwiches (with barbeque sauce)
- giant slabs of pork and beef and ribs covered with barbeque sauce (no dainty meats on a stick)
- chili (all types)
- Clam Chowder (or if you're from New England, Chowdah)
- Maine lobster (lobstah) with butter
- peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
- peanut butter
- Cap'n Crunch
- Oreos/M&Ms/Hershey bars/other candies
- vegemite (of course i'm joking here)
- grits
- jambalaya
- redbeans and rice
- stuff known as soul food; fried chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens, chitlins' (add the Tabasco sauce on them), pig feet, etc.
- Tabasco sauce (McIlhenny Co from Avery Island LA)
- apple pie in a pie pan
- pineapple upside down cake
- plate lunch (Hawaii is part of the US)
Now that's I've started the ball, others can chime in. Spending time out of the US makes you appreciate the stuff you used to eat (whether it was any good or not is a different story). But I never really liked Cap'n Crunch once it stayed in milk too long, and got soggy/mushy. And don't start me on lumpy grits. Here's a test: what do you put on grits, pepper or sugar? (one of these is definitely the wrong answer if you're from the South, or you haven't lost your roots (like I have).

January 9, 2013 at 7:46 AMOr about 4 months if you're 4 years old. As we all know, spoken language follows a log base 3 function around the time it takes to learn a new language if the metric is #new words learned & understood/month.
Or is it inverse log(base 3) function? I know i'm being lazy with my math.

January 7, 2013 at 12:00 AMI guess we're headed toward interesting times. The fact that XP will be unsupported doesn't mean that it won't be used.

January 20, 2013 at 11:03 AMBoy, I would love to know how much Chinese Baba learned exclusively through Cpod! I know he was a frequent poster, but I wasn't sure if he learned Chinese exclusively using Cpod.
I know that Cpod periodically discusses frequent posters when they visit using News and Features. I remember cpod discussing Xiaoliang's visit a couple of years ago or so. I know Amesburygeorge and light487 posted pictures of their visits to the studios.
What would really also be interesting is if Cpod/Baba is going to grace us with a picture of this visit? Cpod seems to respect visitor's privacy, and leaves it for visitors to post pictures if they wish. I suppose we'll see if Baba lets us see him as Superman, or merely Clark Kent :-)
