I think it's cool that chinesepod is having these actors speak 800 mph.  I remember that in the real world (China), native speakers speak quickly.  somehow, this lesson seemed especially fast.

auntie68, I don't have a subscription to Frenchpod, so i'm not following their boards/posts.  Despite 4 years of high school French, a grandfather that spoke Louisiana French, a semester of French in college, and about a week in France and a week in Montreal, I should probably go ahead and subscribe to Frenchpod since my French is still horrible to non-existent.  but mandarin is giving me all I can handle right now.

Regarding your overall post, I agree with what you've said.  My review of the lessons in CPod didn't hear much copyrighted music, so this isn't really too big a problem in the first place. CPod's creative and out-of-the-box way of teaching language takes it into areas where implications of going there may not have been discussed publicly.  I was just wondering if these issues had been discussed here.

Oh, and I should add that this lesson was really pretty helpful to get a better sense of using dou1.  I was telling my fluent mandarin speaking wife that CPod is doing a great job of building the community through these boards and lessons.  Really good stuff.

at the risk of being a wet blanket, isn't using more than 5 seconds of a copyrighted song in the podcast copyright infringment? Not sure how copyright law gets enforced, but I think that if there are Canadian CPod listeners, and Bryan Adams' copyright is in Canada, then this could be a problem.  Same if its a USA copyright with us American subscribers.

the pdf doesn't seem to work.  And at my elementary level understanding, I can tell the dialogue didn't discuss the silicon valley ruan jian culture.  Too bad; it's a big part of the broader San Francisco culture.  But I know, you can only cover so much in a lesson...

actually, I should have written that the pdf for this lesson has translated

wo3men shen2mashi2hou4 kai1hui4?

as:

"When is the meeting?"

when I am thinking that it should be translated as:

"we have the meeting when?"

And my question was more around which translation was more accurate.

for anybody, isn't it a bit more accurate to say:

hui4 shen2mashi2hou4 kai1shi?

meeting starts when?

rather than saying

wo3men shen2mashi2hou4 kai1hui4?

we start meeting when?
