February 7, 2012 at 3:18 AMAnd as I was reading the dialogue, I remember thinking that this would be a great lesson for Sunix to portray the husband. I then downloaded the dialogue and gave it a listen. And of course, Sunix was portraying the husband.

February 7, 2012 at 2:56 AMApropos of nothing, I find that going to the dialogue tab, and reading the hanzi first, then trying to translate the hanzi into English is a great way to practice reading, and also slowly get the meaning of some of the many stock phrases in Chinese, like 说不定。

February 7, 2012 at 2:09 AMHuh. The picture for this lesson is a neat idea. I never would have thought to look at a unused desktop computer bay.

February 1, 2012 at 2:53 PMI think to partially address your question, there is a lesson on seasonings that might be helpful.

There isn't a lesson with a big giant list of possible ingredients for even a few recipes, other than "chicken", "beef", "pork" and so on. Not sure what you mean. Or i'm not quite clear what the problem is. Are you implying that you can cook, but can't read Chinese? Or are you saying you can't cook, but you can read Chinese? Are you saying you don't understand the characters on the packaging because the packaging is in Chinese, or you know how to make chili, but can't tell if the red stuff in a jar is chili pepper because you can't read Chinese? There are always recipes online that can be used for many types of dishes.

January 30, 2012 at 4:15 AMIs there any monitoring of air quality in Shanghai?
Posted on: Fresh Air vs. Heat
January 30, 2012 at 4:14 AMI suppose in the interest of fairness and objectivity, one could use data monitoring of the air quality outside vs. monitoring of the air quality inside to determine whether to open the windows, and let the money fly out the window. Certainly indoor vs. outdoor humidity is a concern, but other data about indoor air quality is harder to measure without the approriate tools.

February 7, 2012 at 4:41 AMyes, but for me, it's not a habit yet. Plus, I still don't really enjoy reading hanzi. I guess i'm still in the "eat your peas" phase of Chinese learning. Plus, I only know 717 characters, so it gets to be slow going at times.
