Interesting lesson.  It sounds like the government uses a mix of market forces and government mandates to manage food prices.  Sounds like this type of price inflation is still going on.

yikes. I suppose i'm just supposed to know that when people say, "chūmén shì jì de guān kōng tiáo (when leaving the room, remember to turn off the air conditioning), that they're not really saying "Go out the door is many closed air conditioners". The dreaded "you know in context" I suppose.
