dunderklumpen, I live in 沈阳 shen3yang2 and also here they "mess up" di S. infact,at the beginning of words as in Shenyang they pronounce it as in "sex" (only world that came up in my mind :) )

I heart 儿化音!do you guys know how come all over 东北 they have a pretty strong er pronunciation, but they say in 哈尔滨 the best 普通话 is spoken? i always wondered why...

@lwelsh...the longer you have pinyin, the longer it will take you to get used to hanzi. My first teacher almost never used it and spoke only chinese, it was pretty though, but I think I learned more! :)

Pink, I live in the north of China, and 张 is pronunced really clearly, the A is clearly understundable...so, I would have not understood what surname it was without the PDF trascript, but is definatly not 张. :)

hi! in the matching exercise, the matching word for 还是 it's "still to be", which sounds like  a computer translation. doesn't it mean "or" ? and can I translate song gei as "give as a gift", without translating the "deliver" part? and 他送花给我 has the same meaning if I say 他送给我花?
