I hear girls say "nǐ hěn jiàn" to each other a lot, although I don't know the character for "jiàn"...

how does one eat apples WHILE dipping them in honey? sounds messy.

要先沾蜂蜜在吃蘋果吧.

According to the zh.Wikipedia entry, 星際迷航 seems to refer only to the latest Star Trek movie specifically.

I believe it says the Star Trek series in China is known as 星際旅行 but was released in Taiwan as 星艦奇航記. But I just happened to catch someone from Taiwan tweeting about "星艦迷航" ...maybe that's the Taiwanese title of the latest movie?

Ah well, I can't keep the different movies and tv shows straight in English either. Trekkies might want to take note, however, of the different translations out there.

The traditional transcript PDF is missing characters all over the place. For example the last line reads "帥,你說了."

Maybe an error with the simplified-traditional character conversion?

spotted this sign in taipei:

旅社

so add 旅社 to the list. i'm guessing this is similar to the 報社 that lujiaojie mentioned

indeed 這節課成的音效很厲害!恭喜你門. did i hear a starcraft "door opening" clip near the beginning? :)

還有一個"親"的結構: "親身" ...比如說 "我親身經驗"

for those in the states thinking about getting a tablet for use with skritter, Wacom has a $20 mail-in rebate for orders for small bamboo fun tablets through 8/31, which brings the price from $99 down to $65, with free shipping on amazon.com.

From what I've read this tablet is the best you can get for the relatively low price tag. Any owners care to comment?

thanks for adding the PDF!

that said, i think there is an error: 車庫裏 should be 車庫裡 on the first page, right?

and i thought 上床 meant to make love not "go to bed"..?

re "peanuts" in Taiwan, I'm pretty sure I've heard 花生, though 土豆 might be used as well. tw.dictionary.yahoo.com translates peanuts as 花生 and potato as 馬鈴薯 (mǎlíngshǔ)

really grasping the difference between j/q/x and zh/ch/sh was my first big hurdle learning chinese... i must have spent days or weeks trying to figure it out until i found this link: http://www.sinosplice.com/lang/pronunciation/03/ (which happened to be john's blog) on the chinesepod forum. everything clicked right after i read that.

i think it really takes a talented ear to be able to hear a foreign sound and be able to reproduce it flawlessly. i am not so gifted so the visual aids and concise explanation really jump-started my understanding of pinyin and Mandarin consonants.
