Posted on: Chinese Birthdays and Local Hospitals
August 31, 2008 at 5:01 PMI went to two hospitals in Xi'an, because the first one wanted to do some nasty procedure that was totally unnecessary. Both were the same though that the receptionist asked what was wrong, and then we were dragged to the VIP section where the doctors spoke some English and queue-jumped whilst the nurses were shouting 外国人, which promptly meant that all the Chinese people started staring at us. The doctor sort of appointed a nurse to take me places, though she couldn't speak English, but that wasn't really a problem - we just attempted to talk Chinese about scarves, but I didn't know how to say "Cambodia" so it didn't really work out...
Anyway, had a test, and after it came back from the lab I was made to throw it away in a huge overflowing bin filled with biological hazards, and the test results went back to the doctor who then gave me a prescription, and the nurse came down and helped me buy it at the pharmacy (including grabbing my purse and pulling the money out). All in all, it was a very unique experience!

July 17, 2008 at 7:55 AMOK, this QW begs the question how do you say "I'll do anything for you" and "I'll do anything to you".
Wo shenme hui wei ni zuo = I'll do something for you?
No offers on number 2.

April 3, 2008 at 12:11 PMI still don't get it: surely maths eventually ends up being in English at a certain level. There are just too many specialised words!

March 10, 2008 at 4:22 PMA bit late on the discussion here, but great lesson guys, perfect for my abilities. I had/have a bonsai tree which I attempted to grow from scratch, except that when I tested one of the main branches to see how bendy it was, the whole thing snapped off, so it looks rubbish.
