Posted on: Directions for the Taxi Driver
January 12, 2012 at 3:10 PMThis is a good lesson. I've been in taxis here in China plenty of times and I have no problem saying the simple directions, but by studying this a bit more I should be able to convey most of the directions in one hit and then I can spend a bit more time relaxing in the car rather than watching for the next turn...

I really like the 3 times frequency of the "real life" communication in the lessons. I have heard other lessons where this part is only played once at the beginning and at the end... hearing it done this way today makes me want to say I just hope Chinesepod doesn't intend to make it a regular thing. 3 times over is quite useful in my opinion.
Posted on: Finally
June 23, 2009 at 5:28 AMThe last sentence in the lesson really confused me because I was looking for one of the "finally" words used in the lesson to appear in that sentence.
等了很久,很希望达到的结果出现了。
Děng le hěn jiǔ, hěn xīwàng dádào de jiéguǒ chūxiàn le.
We waited a long time, and the result we hoped to attain has finally appeared.
Anyway, I asked my Chinese coworker about this and she told me that the word to represent "finally" does not exist in this sentence and that the meaning is just implied when we say we waited a long time, and then it happened. I don't understand each seperate word in this sentence, but I am now clear about how this sentence works. Did anybody else have this problem?

Posted on: Does it Have Bones?
March 31, 2009 at 7:31 AMHey,
Wo bu tai xihuan gutou, but the very first time I met my girlfriend's mother we went to a nice restaurant in Beijing, and out come the big bones with the straws in the center. I was kind of freaked out, but so determined to make a good impression on her mother that I went ahead and put the gloves on and sucked the marrow. It's something I would definitely NOT choose to do again. Anyway, I experienced it. That's what counts.

March 7, 2009 at 7:08 AMHi. I live in an apartment in Shanghai and have a neighbor living down below me who is a very nice old lady living alone. I always say ni hao to her every time I see her, but have never addressed her in any formal or non-formal way. Now that I've heard this lesson I'm wondering, would it be appropriate to address her as Lao Shi, or would that seem odd?

Posted on: Photocopying and Printing
March 7, 2012 at 3:29 PMI'm just having a bit of trouble with the noun - verb order of the request to print and the request to photocopy. I see each sentence is using a different order. I don't want to get myself stuck on something useless, but I would like to understand how loose the rules are on the grammar ordering.
